Valerie Best Obituary

".....But if the storms don't cease
And if the winds keep on blowing
My soul has been anchored in the Lord"

It has become the solemn duty of Mr. Shannon G. Whitfield & The Staff of Whitfield Mortuary, LLC to formally announce the transition of, 67 year old, Ms. Valerie Gail Best of Kinston, North Carolina who traded time for eternity on Monday, September 11, 2023 at UNC Lenoir Hospital.

A Celebration of Life will take place 1:00PM, Monday, September 18, 2023 at Greater Victory Apostolic Church with Pastor Benjamin Bruton officiating. Burial will follow in Pinelawn Memorial Park

Valerie Gail Thompson Best was a native of Kinston, NC, born January 29, 1956. She was the youngest daughter born to the late Clifton Leroy Thompson and Carrie Bruton Thompson.

Gail attended Lenoir County public schools and was a member of the Kinston High School class of 1975.
After high school she attended Lenior Community College, obtaining her license as a Certified Nursing
Assistant, working in this profession for many years. Gails chosen profession allowed her to show love
and compassion to her patients, always going the extra mile, including preparing meals when there was no obligation. Gail truly had a heart of gold.

She was one of the friendliest people you could ever meet. She never met a stranger. To know Gail is to
love her. She had a sense of humor unlike any other and could easily fill a room with laughter. Her no-
nonsense personality kept us all entertained, although most times unintentionally.
Gail was a great cook and always enjoyed a good meal, preferably those prepared by her sisters, as well
as a glass of Raynal Brandy, on occasion. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, particularly
during the holidays. She never missed an episode of the Young and The Restless nor the Bold and The
Beautiful and could hardly wait to discuss the shows drama with her sisters and besties.
She was a loving, devoted mother, sister, grandmother, auntie, and friend.

Gail was preceded in death by her parents and her oldest brother Clarence “Pete” Bruton. Her passing
leaves a tremendous void in the lives of her children, Aemika Chacara Best of Linden, NJ and Walter
Douglas “Douggie” Best Jr. of Kinston, NC, and grandson, Khaleel M. Best, her siblings, Ruby L. Bruton of
Kinston, NC; James E. Bruton (Katherine) of Kinston, NC; Carolyn B. Perry of Kinston, NC; Morris Lee
Thompson of Kinston, NC; Mary E. Thompson of Durham, NC and Kenneth R. Thompson Sr. (Linda) of
Kinston, NC. She leaves a wealth of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

SHE WILL FOREVER LIVE IN OUR HEARTS
