"I am Free, Praise the Lord, I'm Free....."

The Staff & Management of Whitfield Mortuary, LLC solemnly announces the transition of, 65 year old, Ms. Sandra Barnes of LaGrange, North Carolina who passed from labor to reward on Thursday morning, June 8, 2023 surrounded by her family in the comfort of her home. 

Sandra Faye Barnes was born February 2, 1958 to the Late Ida Mae Fisher & Harvey Barnes in Lenoir County, North Carolina. Along the journey of life, Sandra moved to Philadelphia , PA with her parents and attended University City High School. Two of Sandra’s biggest accomplishments was the birthing of her two children, Latosha Whitfield Barnes and Reginal Lee Barnes.

Sandra briefly worked for the Philadelphia Department of Recreation. Sandra felt the need for more education, therefore she attended a Specialty Culinary School in upstate Pennsylvania. Upon Retirement, Sandra’s parents migrated back to North Carolina, and Sandra was employed with various factory and suddenly found her niche in the healthcare field at a retirement home.  Family was one thing that she enjoyed the most – family cohesiveness was her heart.  Many can attest to the loyal person that she was and her willingness to help anyone through any situation. 

Sandra was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Harvey “Pete” Barnes.

Precious memories are stored in the hearts of, one son, Reginal Barnes of Kinston, one daughter, LaTosha Whitfield Barnes of LaGrange, brothers, Ricky Barnes of Philadelphia, PA, Keith Barnes of Kinston, NC, three sisters, Edna Barnes of Philadelphia, PA, Jacqueline “Neicy” Barnes of Philadelphia, PA, and Tonya Barrett of Philadelphia, PA, nine grandchildren, Sharnyce, Christian, Shadiyah, Radhiya, Shamarcus, Jamar, Ny’Brea, A’Jream, C’Laya, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Memorial Service will take place 1:00PM Saturday, June 17, 2023 at Chosen Vessel Ministries with Bishop Kenneth Fisher officiating. 

Family & Friends are being received at 506 Walston Avenue - Kinston, NC where they will also assemble in preparation for the funeral processional.
