Shannon G. Whitfield & The Staff of Whitfield Mortuary, LLC humbly announces the earthly transition of, 63 year old, Elder Darryl L. Tindley, Sr who went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 8, 2023.
Darryl is the son of Carlton and Barbara Tindley. He was raised in Dagsboro, DE. Darryl graduated from Indian River High School in 1978. Following graduation, he joined the Army National Guards where he would serve this country proudly as a cook and vehicle mechanicfor over 28 years, also completing two tours in Iraq and Kuwait. His good works would not go unnoticed as he received various medals including the Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Terrorism Expeditionary Medal,Overseas Service Ribbon, and the Army Reserve Achievement Medal. Darryl worked forthe Department of Corrections and Walmart for over 10 years. He would end his career at Butterball Inc.
Darryl began his married life and family with Alvina N. Hudson on December 22, 1984. Their marriage of 38 years fruitfully produced three beautiful children and 8 grandchildren.
Darryl loved God with all his heart. He gave his life to the Lord as a young adult and never turned back. Darryl served as a deacon in the Bible Church of Christ for 35 years. July 18, 2021, Darryl accepted his calling as an elder for Kingdom Life Empowerment Ministries.
Darryl loved playing basketball with his son, nephews, and others. He’s known for his left hook shot which never failed him in defeating even his youngest opponents. He enjoyed cooking, eating, national geographics, and most of all ICE CREAM. He needed his ice cream every night or it was not complete.
Darryl always had an encouraging word and scripture for family and friends. In his transition, he leaves to continue his legacy: his wife of 38 years Alvina N. Tindley; mother, Barbara Ann Tindley, mother-in-law- Esther Hudson, children, Ebony (Michael) Soanes, Darryl (KiKi) Tindley, Jr., Erica (Micah) Monroe; two brothers, Barry Tindley, and Brian (Matilda) Tindley; sisters, Carvela ( Maurice) Jarmon, Malissa ( Andre) Billinger, and Lorri Ann Tindley, Sherri Snead (Jimmy); three sisters-in-law, Andrea (Charles) Mumford, Malinda Hudson, and Carlyn Huson; one brother-in-law, Alvin Hudson Jr., eight grandchildren, Gabrielle Smith, Tariyah Nocks, Taylin Small, Harmony Tindley, Gabriel Soanes, Darryn Tindley, Aaron Soanes, Mckenzie Monroe, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close family friends.
He was preceded in death by his father Carlton C. Tindley, father-in-law Alvin N. Hudson Sr., brother- in – laws, Charles R. Mumford, andBarry C. Hudson; one sister-in-law, Paula I. Hudson.
Darryl lived a full life and went home empty.
A Celebration of Life will be conducted at 12 noon Saturday, August 19, 2023 at the United Gospel Outreach Church with Bishop Designate Darryl Tindley, Jr. serving as the officiant. The public visitation will take place one hour prior to the service.
Burial will take place at 12 noon Monday, August 21, 2023 from the Eastern Veterans Cemetery in Goldsboro, North Carolina.
